June 26, 2004

Out of focus.

What do you when you haven't had a free weekend in 3 years ? When it's 10 AM or so and you have already had breakfast, read the paper, and pretty much finished the latest issue of The Atlantic.

Do you sit out on the front porch, read a book and get some friendly sunshine ?

Or do you hunker down in your family room, playing Vice City on your Xbox and rip shit up, making the most of the $150 or so you shelled out for component video and digital optical out cables? (Those days of crazy spending are most definitely past me.)

This period reminds of when I no longer had to work evenings and weekends during my undergrad degree. What would you do on a Thursday or Friday night if you didn't have to work ? Why, go to the mall of course!

Or at least, I did. For a good couple of weeks. Figured that going cold turkey would have killed me.

Now it's sort of the same. What to do with my evenings and weekends? (Some of you are no doubt saying that I should spend time with HCW™ and my hound–dog. But I am already spending the contractually alloted time as it is. This is my time!).

Oh well, it becomes a question for tomorrow I guess.

Today we are off to Quebec City to see some old friends from my undergrad Economics degree. Back late tonight. (Last night, I finished up the DVD of episodes from Married with Children, thanks to my friend Guy–dou, who has a nice pool— an envy of which (when combined with the mere concept of a lawn, I suffer from immensely. Now have to settle down to watching Spinal Tap for the first time.

And then I have to figure out when I want to invite all my Montreal friends over to the house and our brand new back desk (picture forthcoming). I'm leaning towards next weekend if that's OK with you folks ... Dan–, K–chick, Guy–dou, Nick. D, JeanJean, LissaLissa, et al. And why not the original Boston Brahmin himself, Vinu ? Say Saturday ? I've got the burger cooking thing down pat, and HCW™ will finally be making the burgers as I instruct her too (no room for individual thought this time dear... read an article on Trotsky this morning ...) Or shall I call her Snowball ? Not be to confused with the adverb "snowball" from Clerks, but I digress.

Well, in some ways I have answered my own question. Fifteen minutes later, here we are full circle. I spent the free time writing in my blog.

'nuff said.

That's all she wrote.

Just got back home after a long commute and a long wait in the Longueuil bus station, from what be, barring any unforeseen problems, was my last MBA exam ever!

I'm done! Yahoo!!!

Where has the time gone? What should I do now ? Where now from here ?

These and many other questions to be answered in the coming weeks and months.

Stay tuned.

Have to get up early to go to work. Meanwhile, no rest for the wicked. 'nuff said.

Finally.

After over 2 weeks of being unable to access the Internet from the friendly confines of my own home, the losers at Videotron, the shittiest cable provider in the world, managed to get me back online. Suffice to say, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. And even when everything was supposed to be fine, after multiple assurances, it still didn't work.

But that's all water under the bridge now. Since I am not planning to move for another <insert number here> years, it shouldn't be a problem.

Wanting to test my connection, I went to a couple of web sites that I frequent on a regular basis. On second though, maybe not the best way to test my connection. What if my browser was feeding from its cache.

So I figured that I would go to a website or two that I had not visited in the last two weeks, from home or from work. So I figured I would check out a porn site. Bad idea again. I was sure I had seen the first mini–movie before. It could be coming from my cache.

So I played another. Same problem. Seen it before.

Try another. No luck.

A fourth. Same problem.

Number five. This is getting ridiculous.

By the time I finally came across a movie I hadn't seen, it was getting dark in the basement, and my hands and fingers were dead tired ... from clicking. Now however, as I head off to bed, I can assure you that my Internet connection is fully functional.

I thought you might want to know. ;-)
