well no news.
Oh well. The day of ultimatum came and went. Monday it is then. Things seem OK for now; otherwise I wouldn;t have dragged HCW™ along to the company BBQ ... or even gone myself. it was the reassurances that did it I guess.
A certain bachelor's party that I was supposed to go to got cancelled as well.
That left more time for me to have fun.
So as I promised to young Charles, a neighbour from two doors down at the tender age of 6, after supper last night, I grabbed my hockey stick and headed out to play some street hockey (or should I say "shimmy"?). We were soon joined by his brother Alex, 10, and later their sister Jade, who I figure was about 8. She interrupted her swim to come watch us, watching us from their front porch, and then figured she would join in. It was 3 on 1, which was just about right. (I hadn't played competitive hockey for 20 years.)
At some point, a car came, and I promptly hollered "Car! Car!". My young teammates, either lacking a reference to Wayne's World, or used to shouting "Voiture! Voiture!" missed the point. Oh well. Our sticks of fence serving as goal posts were promptly driven through by a mini–van.
Now it must be said that I was watched wearily. Not by their parents, who tend to be on the shout–y side. Rather it was HCW™ who wanted to make sure that I didn't over exert myself. Not that I was necessarily too out of shape–which I am—but that I needed to be careful in light of a certain minor surgery that I had on Wednesday, and which had left my quite feverish for the last two days (though that didn't stop me from going in to work anyways.) Things are better now, soaked pillow notwithstanding.
Today we were supposed to leave for a camping trip but were kept home by semi–torrential rains. On the menu for tonight is a movie, followed by another 50 pages of Kissinger's Diplomacy. What a delicious book. (It just happens to touch on the stuff I need to see in a certain pre–requisite course for a certain MSc degree in international studies ... hehe.)
Gotta go now. Humidity got me down and have to look cute for an evening with The Hot Chick. 'nuff said.
PS: Told my immediate neighbor's wife to buy him a hockey stick. The two guys in their thirties will then "stick" the rest of the neighbourhood.
PPS: If you come to visit me this summer, you better bring your stick.
